Are You Flossing the Right Way?

Many people believe that brushing their teeth twice a day is enough to keep their mouths healthy. However, brushing only cleans the surfaces of your teeth. It doesn't reach the areas between your teeth, where plaque and bacteria can build up and cause cavities and gum disease. That's why flossing is such an important part of a complete oral care routine.

Flossing helps to remove plaque and food particles from between your teeth, which can help to prevent cavities and gum disease. It can also help to freshen your breath and improve your overall oral health.

But are you flossing the right way? Many people don't use proper flossing technique. This can make flossing less effective and can even damage your gums.

How to Floss the Right Way

Here are the steps on how to floss the right way:
1~ Break off a piece of floss about 18 inches long. Wrap the ends of the floss around your middle fingers.
2~ Hold the floss taut between your thumbs and index fingers. Leave about 1 inch of floss between your hands.
3~ Gently slide the floss between your teeth. Use a sawing motion to move the floss up and down.
4~ Curve the floss into a C-shape around each tooth. Slide the floss under your gum line and gently move it back and forth.
5~ Repeat this process for each tooth. Be sure to floss the back of your last teeth.
6~ Rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash after flossing.

Tips for Flossing

Here are some additional tips for flossing:
•  Don't snap the floss against your gums. This can damage your gums.
•  If you have braces, use a floss threader to get the floss between your teeth.
•  If you have sensitive gums, use a waxed floss.
•  Floss once a day, before bed.

The Benefits of Flossing

Flossing is an important part of a complete oral care routine. It can help to prevent cavities and gum disease, and it can also help to improve your overall oral health.

If you're not sure how to floss the right way, talk to your dentist or dental hygienist. They can show you the proper technique and answer any questions you have.

With a little practice, flossing can become a quick and easy part of your daily routine. And the benefits of flossing are well worth the effort.
